Called By God Podcast

Have you ever felt a pull towards something greater, a nudge from the divine in the midst of your everyday life? Brother Ray Gosa rejoins us on the Called by God Podcast for a heartfelt discussion that traverses the mystical to the practical aspects of answering a higher calling. Together, we reminisce about Moses' unforgettable encounter with the burning bush and contemplate the mysterious ways God summons us to action.

Brother Ray's wisdom shines as we share personal narratives of spiritual awakening, akin to the steadfast flame within Moses' bush, revealing our own passions and purposes. We ponder the skepticism that might greet such inexplicable events as the burning bush in our current era, while recognizing the individualized nature of these divine moments. Through our exchanges, we invite you to unearth the extraordinary within the ordinary and discover your own 'burning bush' moments that beckon you towards a path less traveled.

Closing our episode, we turn our attention to the boldness required to confront injustices, drawing inspiration from Moses' return to his roots. The conversation evolves into a reflection on the 'killer instinct' necessary to champion righteousness and the distinct roles we can embody as catalysts for change. With a note of encouragement, we leave you with thoughts on the beauty of life, the importance of awakening with a thankful heart, and the unwavering love of God and Jesus Christ. Join us on this journey of faith and introspection, and perhaps find the spark to ignite your own divine call to action.

Speaker 1:

When God calls you, sometimes it's going to be a one-on-one class, and that may also lend itself to the idea that God wants you to hear this without the opinions of other people, because how easily would it be to talk Moses out of what he just saw and heard? It's like Moses. I think you're dehydrated. I think you need to come be around some more people, because you've been around a lot of animals and maybe the pollen, maybe the allergies. You thought it was a burning bush, but really, as your eyes were watering and they were red and what you saw wasn't the bush, that was really just your red eyes and maybe the sun just so happened to reflect, I mean whatever. Explain and rationalize what God was trying to get you to pay attention to.

Speaker 2:

Speaker 2:

Wwwcallbygodpodcast. This is where we have plenty, plenty of content. Now this guest is a special guest. He's a dear friend of mine. He been on countless, countless of episodes. He been on a man's purpose and value, he been on our biblical dialogue with Ishmael and he also did our call by God podcast anniversary sermon for us. And also he was on a special episode, his own personal story, and it's called Transcending Disobedience. That's episode 50. So I welcome no other than my dear friend, dear brother in Christ, for a very, very long time. Brother Ray Gosa, how you doing on this blessed day?

Speaker 1:

I'm blessed brother Nick. Thank you for having me on. How are you?

Speaker 2:

Man, I am blessed man. I tell folks brother Ray, anytime above grounds is a blessing. We should say that when we're young, because when folks die you gotta bury them six feet under. Well, not everybody get buried six feet under, some people gotta get, you know they gotta. You know what I mean. They gotta turn them into ashes and dust and you know what I mean Send them off in the way. So not everybody get, yeah, man. So we used to say that all the time we was like man, you know, anytime you open your eyes it's a blessing. You know you got to wake up being thankful and showing that gratitude. So that's how I'm feeling right now. You know how about yourself? I see you got your CBG podcast shirt on.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, yeah, you know it could, I mean I could have, you know, put some starch on it, but you know, you know I wanted to represent, you know, called by God. You know, just, you know, for those that that are looking to support the, you know the podcast, you know Hollad at Nick, you know, get you one of these shirts. I know that the merch section is going to be expanding, so be on the lookout for that, because it's definitely everyone wants to rock this. So some identity right now we're, we're, our identity is being called by God. I mean, I don't, I can't go wrong with that.

Speaker 2:

But you, you look like you're by the preacher's sermon. No, I'm just plugging for you, that's all. So listen, ray. So today's a special episode. We'll be talking about Moses, moses. So you're Moses Moses and you're speaking about being called by God, right? So Moses is. He's always been a interesting biblical figure, a biblical character to me and I know. But before we even get into the scriptures, so yeah, if you hear kids running into Ray Ghost's office, just I just wanted to highlight that he is. Are you babysitting? Is that? Is that?

Speaker 1:

fair to say no, it's, it's called, it's called. No, no, it's not baby, I'm a dad, you know, and they live with me. So you know, my kids live, I live in, you know, in my wife. We don't have a dog or a cat, but that doesn't mean if you hear barking or meowing, Like I said, I got kids, you know. So if they come here, folks, you are live. You know this is reality TV. I don't know which all usually consider reality TV, but but kids do run in rooms and they do complain about who spilled what juice and all that. But anyway, if it's, if it happens, we'll try to mitigate that as well.

Speaker 2:

Yeah. So this is like under edited version. This is like, yeah, unfiltered, unedited, yeah, it's raw, right. So we're going to go get right into it. Man and man, just reading about Moser's story, I'm just like I can't wait. I got Ray on my side, I got, I got. I'm also on TikTok, by the way, so for those that can't see us, I'm on TikTok as well. So let's get right into it.

Speaker 2:

So, exodus, exodus, chapter three. And this is a time where Moses, he's living in the land of Median and Moses is a married man. He's married, right, he's married to a woman's, a poor Jethro's daughter, and Moses is away from his family. So, as you know, moses, he is from the tribe of Levi and the previous episode we talked about how Moses committed a act and he fled because he feared for his death. So Moses is in a season in his life where he's a family man and he's in verse chapter three of Exodus. In verse one, the Bible helps us to understand and I like how it says now, like something's about to happen, Like get ready. In the King James version or the ESV, rather Now, moses was keeping the flock of his father-in-law, jethro, the priest of Median, and the Bible helps us to see that.

Speaker 2:

And he led his flock to the west side of the wilderness and came to Horab, the mountain of God, and the angel of the Lord appeared to him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush. And he looked and behold, the bush was burning, yet it was not consumed. And Moses said I will turn aside to see this great sight, why the bush is not burned. When the Lord saw that, he turned aside to see. God called to him out of the bush, moses, moses. And he said here I am Ray Gosier man. What are your thoughts on that man?

Speaker 1:

Well, there's always a lot to unpack, brother. I mean you emphasize the first word, at least in our version of the Bible is saying now, moses. It's like one of those things where it's like you don't know God's timing. You could be just doing your everyday routine and then all of a sudden, something in some other time frame where, especially the Bible says you know, the hour coming from now is you don't really have that on your Apple Watch, so when God calls you, it's usually not on your Google Calendar, it's usually you were just going about taking care of business, handling your responsibility, and then, seemingly out of nowhere, you can't anticipate. When God says, ok, now it's ready, I thought that I could probably position myself to be ready, which, yeah, there is an element where, yeah, you need to be forward thinking and be prepared, but it's like when God has something for you, he knows when the seasoning is right. You may not even realize it, you may not even feel ready, but it's like, hey, now, as you are doing your everyday routine, now is time. And when the Bible says you know he was tending a flock, you see this pattern, just like David and Goliath, where David was a shepherd of a flock.

Speaker 1:

God tends to call people who know how to take care of things, who are attentive. It's not a labor for them, just like we started. Look, I got kids. They run in this room. Ok, I'm taking care of them. That's what happens and I'm going to take care of it, and I'm going to come back to the podcast. If they don't want to jump on this microphone, you might you know whatever, but that's who God likes to pick in terms of who is going to lead his people. I'm going to see how you treat certain elements in your life almost as an indicator, not for God to measure it, not for you to not be surprised if, hey, you might be really good at leading other things. By the way, you lead one thing, you know, because obviously Moses is not a selfish person, moses is a conscientious person, and Moses has this thing, like like David did, where, hey, I can see an injustice and I can care about it. That's how he even got to this place, like, listen, I don't like the way people are being treated. So, therefore, I'm going to take action, just like David and Goliath. It's like who is this uncircumcised Philistine? You know, you talking, you talking real spicy to my people and about my God. Now I fight line, you know, in referencing David, I fight the lions and tigers and bears over these sheep. You're nothing Like I'm going to. So there's a there's a connection there and I want people to to not miss the point of how you treat one thing Can also indicate how you treat a lot of things.

Speaker 1:

I'm not going to say everything, because certain things they had to have their place. So in verse two, you know, the angel of the law I'm reading from the King James version appeared unto him in the flame of fire out of the midst of a bush. And he looked and behold, the bush burned with fire and the bush was not consumed. Whew, I mean, I'm so many thoughts swirling my head when I when I read that. But it's like how many things in life are burning? And when I say burning, I mean are uncomfortable, are inconvenient, but you yourself are not burned. How many marriages, for example, have been on the rocks for a long time? Never, my marriage is relationships in general it's been uncomfortable, but for some reason it's still there. What most people, for example and I'm going to talk about marriage will get divorced over. You're still hanging in there for some reason it's still there. But some people, when their kids, go crazy and they would have been done with them a long time ago, for some reason you still love that child. It's burning, but it's not burnt. There is something godly about that that says you know what. That speaks to the character of when God calls you, because you have this resilience in being uncomfortable but you can still perform. It's almost like. It's almost like if you wanted someone to lead somebody or to lead a company.

Speaker 1:

Find someone who's had a hell of a time. What I mean is if you find someone, for example, who watches kids, but all their kids are just angels. They don't know how to deal with issues. They may know the book version, they may know the theory, the ideology, but what makes a better counselor? Someone who experiences with their kids. Oh, my kids listen to it to me all the time and they're great and that's amazing.

Speaker 1:

But you want to counsel kids. Or how about the one who's like yeah, you know what. My kid's been missing. My kid's been in and out of the justice system. My kid has been whatever. I can tell you how bad it can get and still be in it. So you want to talk about being called man. That's like, how did? The thought of being burned is scarier than being burned, but sometimes you just got to be in the fire and realize, man, I'm doing all right. Am I happy about a situation, though? Do I want to change it? Oh, of course God knows. But look at the fact that there is a voice in that flame and you can still hear it, because you yourself are not consumed.

Speaker 2:

No, I get it, man, you did hit on some great points and just to highlight some of the things that even Moses experienced on the chapters that we read, I'm just trying to make it like relatable. If we just think on a deeper level that here's a man, we're both family men, you have a wife, you have children and, just as myself and Moses at the time, there's not a connection or relationship with God. He's in a foreign territory, away from his family. Now, this is what I want people to understand that the children of Israel are being afflicted, they're suffering and they'll be oppressed in Egypt. So the children of Israel are crying out loud to God, they're pleading for God. So, in essence, they want God to save them, they want God to deliver them, and God could, because we know that God is all powerful and God could have easily sent a wind, he could have easily sent something to deliver the children of Israel. But what God does and this is why I love God so much that he will use us he will use you Rape, he will use poor little old me, right? So even Moses, in the state that he's in, because if we go back to episode one, we know that Moses, he killed a man and he had to flee, but God, yet God's seeing purpose in him. Despite the things that happened in the past, god's still seeing purpose in him and God called him. So I think with Moses.

Speaker 2:

So when I think about, or even when I read about the story of Moses, how he's tending the flock and the angel of the Lord appeared to him in a burning bush this is not normal. So we're talking about, we're reading something that actually happened. Y'all this is not a fairy tale. This is real life. Moses, he's seen a bush that was burning and it wasn't consumed. Now, in our minds, in modern day, if we happen to see something burning and that is not consumed, what in the world would we do? Now, I've seen a lot of things on TikTok swirling, or there's aliens, there's this and that and this and that and this and that.

Speaker 2:

Imagine a bush that is burning, it is not consumed and it's the angel of the Lord. This was Moses' encounter, this what's going on where Moses is a super natural encounter, and what I like, and even if I fast forward down when God saw, because Moses wanted to be nosy, because Moses was like he's like, kind of like us Like, if we see. You know, sometimes we do a double take, we'll do a double look Like, we'll look at it. We'll be like wait, wait, wait. Did I just see that? So that was Moses.

Speaker 2:

So in verse three, so Moses said I will turn aside to see this great sight. So obviously this thing was beautiful to his eyes. He wanted to look at it. He said why is the bush, is not burnt Like, why is not deteriorating? It's not even consumed. And this is the part that gets me when the Lord saw that Moses turned aside because, again, like I said, moses did a double take. Then God called him out of the bush. So the very same thing that was in consumed.

Speaker 2:

That's what God used to get Moses' attention and to speak to him. And God called him by his name Moses, moses. So you know some folks in the world, right, we have aliases, we have some people have fake names, but God called this man by his real name. And the thing that gets me is that Moses acknowledged. He said here I am, most people and just to make it a little bit more, just to be a little bit more transparent, to make it more relatable, before I became a Christian, god was trying to get my attention. So you see how God got Moses' attention by way of the burning bush.

Speaker 2:

God, although he may or may not come to a person in a burning bush, he may come to him in the form of using your child, your child, to say, hey, you know, jesus Christ is the Son of God. You know Jesus Christ has called you to repent and be baptized, confess and get in the church, get in the body of Christ, right. So God could use anybody. God could use. God used a donkey to speak, right For crying out loud. But before I became a Christian, god was always trying to get my attention. I didn't say here in my Lord what Moses said. I didn't say that, but what I was saying was I'm a radio Christian, when I wasn't. So I was proclaiming something that I was not, because I like the thought or the imagery or the sound of it.

Speaker 2:

Like everybody's a Christian. You walk on the streets now you ask people hey, do you wanna go to heaven? Everybody wanna go to heaven, but not everybody is gonna do what it takes to get there. Everybody are Christians, everybody Christians, right, but nobody don't wanna study their word to know what it means to be a Christian. You know everybody talk about they have a relationship with Jesus Christ. But the minute you talk about what Jesus says that you can and cannot do, or the do nots, people are like no, he didn't really mean that. And you question them like, do you really have a relationship with Christ? So I like Moses' disposition, I like how you know God call him Moses, moses. Like he's saying Ray Ray, you know, if God called you twice, you better be, you better perk up, you better listen. God said Nick, nick, you better perk up. Like he said, here I am.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, it's almost like it's weird, not just the burning bush not being consumed, because, yeah, like we've kind of discussed in the prelims of this conversation, it's like if I saw that now I'm gonna have to question the bush, I'm like, let me make sure there ain't no, no one, you know marijuana bushes. I'm just like hallucinating. I'm like because if I'm correct, it's just him and the herd. It's like who do you turn to? To be like hey, did y'all see that you out there with a bunch of sheep?

Speaker 2:

It's almost like man. I don't know Did the tick fly on me?

Speaker 1:

Did. I get bit by one of them, special ones, and now I'm seeing a. It's almost like a dream state. It's almost like, wait, wait. There's something surreal about this that only I can see, so it makes me speculate whether other people that ignored this. Or was this set on fire just because, hey, we knew you were coming and we knew you wouldn't miss it? Because there's something about it that attracts you, and I'm a firm believer that Now the world can mirror who you are on the inside. There's something about you internally that you have this burning desire that won't go away, because, well, think about it, if the bush gets burned, what happens to the fire? Well, the fire goes too Well. So it's almost like well, there's something that's burning inside you that won't die down until you address it. Now, you may not even know what it is, because I don't think Moses was putting out applications. You know he wasn't inquiring, but he's walking around doing a routine thing.

Speaker 1:

And let me just speak to those who are, who know there's something else outside of death and taxes. There's something else more to this life. I don't know exactly what it is. I don't even know where to go, and I challenge you, ask God to show you in a unique way that only you will know it's him, because I can sit here and say hey, nick, listen, if you want to know, I want your head around back to this mountain here and once you get up yonder a little bit, you're going to find a bush, whether it's a mulberry bush or you know one of those eucalyptus, you know whatever it's going to be on fire and it's not. You're not going back there. You're like that sounds like a trap. So in that case, for those out listening and you just have this thing inside you that just won't let you, you can't be at peace with it. It's bothering you and you don't even know what it is.

Speaker 1:

Some people might call it midlife crisis. We're going to get into how old Moses was at this point where it's like, yeah, like what else is there? All I'm doing is just the same routine thing and just getting older. What else is there to look forward to in life? And that's when we start to get in trouble. But then that's when God calls us and I would think that you know, if God wanted me to do something, he would have caught me like back when I was.

Speaker 1:

You know, you know. You know 17, 18, you know about to go into my prep. No different time in, jack, because your perspective you would have as a teenager. You would have been like, oh look, a burning bush, that's cool, keep going. But he was perfectly seasoned and positioned to stop and then question while he's on the job.

Speaker 1:

Let's just, let's just call it that there's something that happens on your job that gets you to stop that everyone else seems to have overlooked or not have noticed, or maybe it's something that you were by yourself and you really can't share that with anyone because no one's going to. People are going to question you, and I would also insert that when God calls you, sometimes you, it's going to be a one-on-one class, and that may also lend itself to the idea that God wants you to hear this without the opinions of other people, because how easily would it be to talk Moses out of what he just saw and heard? It's like Moses. I think you dehydrated. I think you need to come be around some more people, because you've been around a lot of animals and maybe the pollen, maybe there's. You know the allergies and you know you thought it was a burning bush but really, as your eyes were watering and you know they were red and you know what you saw with the bush that was really just your red eyes and maybe the sun just so happened to reflect, I mean whatever. Explain and rationalize what God was trying to get you to pay attention to. So you also need to calibrate your again. Ask God to show you and then calibrate yourself to look for it.

Speaker 1:

There is something called and we'll move on because I won't go down a rabbit hole a reticular activate system, ras, and basically it's a known kind of scientific psychological thing where you see what you want to see and the more you tell yourself that it's there, the more you'll see it. Like, let's say, there's a specific car that you have your eye on and, before you know it, you see that car everywhere. Well, guess what? It was always there. You're just now that you're looking for it. You know it's there and this is one of the things of life where, if you want to hear from God, you're going to look for it. Moses stopped and questioned Because maybe, maybe Moses internally was looking, because maybe, possibly, maybe Moses knows there's something more to this life and it's not going to be found. I mean, he can't log on to Google, he can't go ask a friend. He can't find anybody else, so he has to look within himself and try to find it outside of himself.

Speaker 2:

So this task that God gives Moses? Because you know, moses had to position himself. God said in Exodus 3.5, god told him don't come near to take off his sandals, off his feet, for the place where he's standing is on holy ground. So Moses had to position himself and, of course, god identified himself. He said I'm the God of God of Abraham, isaac and Jacob, and you know so. Not only that God, god has to introduce himself to Moses multiple times, because, again, this moment that I can imagine that Moses is happening, the encounter with God, and then now he take heed. Obviously he said here I am and God introduces himself, but God saying OK, now, this is the issue, this is why you are being called.

Speaker 2:

So God is calling Moses to be a leader. Why? To lead the people, his people, the Israelites, to deliver his people, the Israelites, out of Egypt. And this is the very same place that Moses came from and in fact, moses was raised from an Egyptian. So God is telling Moses to go back to the place where he was raised, to where they have his people in bondage. You know, these people are being afflicted, as I mentioned, they are suffering, they are being oppressed, and I like this, brother Ray, because that tells me that God cares for his people. It's only so long that the people could go through what they're going through, and God is raising up a leader, he's instructing a leader to perform the task. Now, moses. So I'm just going to go further down, because obviously God is telling Moses to go to Pharaoh, the king. It's like. It's like, is God telling you, giving you instructions, to go to someone that has a higher power, some hierarchy of this country, like God? Are you sure? Are you sure You're right?

Speaker 1:

You don't even have clearance, you only have the credentials, and that's great. You want to be going to who For what? See, listen, listen, a lot of people cry out to God and say Lord, help them. And and God be looking at you like, okay, and there's you. It's like. It's like it's like the children cry out and God taps Nick on the shoulder. I want you to go back to where you're raised. And you know not that God would say like this, but you know, in my vernacular he will say go back to where you're raised. I want you to raise hell. What? Yes, I heard them cry and I'm sending you me. Yes, you cuz, listen, you're the only one who cares enough to do something, because you saw an injustice and in that small test, you had to do what none of them was willing to do.

Speaker 2:

So you have a killer instinct about you that's it for now, but before we go, please continue to listen, subscribe, share our podcast.
